About Michael David Barber
Michael Barber is a dedicated and experienced attorney who was born and raised in the Central Florida community. Mr. Barber began his legal career at the State Attorney's Office in Orange County, Florida. While working as an Assistant State Attorney Mr. Barber had the opportunity to handle a wide variety of cases ranging from misdemeanor and traffic offenses, all the way up to serious felonies, including homicides. Mr. Barber has ample experience in litigating numerous types of cases, including DUI's, traffic cases, drug cases, prostitution cases, cases involving violence or weapons, burglaries, thefts, and more. Mr. Barbertook over 60 cases to trial during his two years as an Assistant State Attorney. Mr. Barber's last assignment as an Assistant State Attorney was prosecuting high level felony drug cases including trafficking, dealing, manufacturing, and cultivation of various types of narcotics. While working as an Assistant State Attorney Mr. Barber developed important skills and abilities that allow him to provide clients with superior representation. Mr. Barber acquired an in-depth understanding of the prosecutorial process, from the deicision to file charges all the way through to plea negotiations. Mr. Barber uses his knowledge of the prosecutorial system to advocate effectively for his clients, and ensure that each one of them receives fair treatment in the justice system. After leaving the State Attorney's Office, Mr. Barber spent six years working at private law firms to further hone his legal skills. Mr. Barber expanded his practice areas and started represented students facing disciplinary action, people who have been injured, professionals experiencing discipline and licensing issues, and homeowers whose homes have been damaged. Ater working at prominent firms for six years, Michael founded his law firm, The Law Office of Michael D. Barber, P.A. The firm's motto was carefully selected to fit with the mission of the firm, Devoted To Justice. Mr. Barber is heavily involved in the local legal community. He is an active member in both the Orange County Bar Association and the Florida Bar Association. Mr. Barber serves on the Executive Board for the Orange County Bar Association (OCBA) Criminal Law Committee, and previously served two terms as Chair of that Board. Mr. Barber also serves on the Executive Board of the OCBA Young Lawyer Section, where he has been a board member for six years, and previously served as Treasurer. Mr. Barber has also served on the OCBA Lawyer Referall and Information Services Oversight Committee, the OCBA Bench Bar Conference, and the Judicial Relations Panel. Mr. Barber makes it a priority to find time to give back to the community where he was born, raised, and established his career. In 2016 Mr. Barber was elected in the General Election to serve as Orange County Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisor for District 1. in 2019, he fellow Supervisors elected him as Chair of the board. Mr. Barber has also served on the Board of Directors for Opera Orlando, as well as on the Board of Directors for the Downtown Orlando YMCA. Mr. Barber graudated from the University of Central Florida with a bachelor's degree in 2008. While at the University of Central Florida Michael was a member of the National Scholar's Honor Society, Eta Sigma Delta International Honors Society, and Junior Achievers. Additionally, Michael was awarded a spot on the Dean's List and the National Bright Futures Academic Scholar Award. After college Mr. Barber went on to study law at the University of Florida, Levin College of Law, and graduated in 2011 with a juris doctorate. While in law school Michael was recognized as a Dean's Scholar, and was awarded the Governor's Scholarship. Michael served two terms as the president of the University of Florida chapter of Phi Delta Phi International Legal Honor Society.
