About Peter John Mackey
Peter Mackey started Mackey Law Group, P.A., along with his wife, Catherine Zoller Mackey, in 1991. Prior to that, Peter worked for large law firms practicing litigation. Upon graduation from law school, he first joined the Hancock & Estabrook law firm in Syracuse, New York. Peter then moved to Florida and joined Holland & Knight in its Bradenton office. Peter was born in 1958 in Syracuse, New York. His family moved to Setauket, New York on the North Shore of Long Island, which is where Peter spent most of his youth. He attended Allegheny College in Meadville, Pennsylvania for two years and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics in 1980 from SUNY at Stony Brook on Long Island, where he was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. He then spent two years as the "yard manager" for a large marina/boat dealership in Port Jefferson, New York before graduating Boston College Law School, receiving his Juris Doctor in 1985. Peter is a litigator; that’s what he is all about, he tries cases. Peter’s peers and adversaries will attest that he is definitely not an "office lawyer/motion practitioner." He likes to win and has won many bench and jury trials in both federal and state court. His clients are predominantly business contractors, subcontractors, and developers; however, he also represents individuals, financial institutions, and other entities. The scope of Peter's litigation experience includes: mechanic's lien prosecutions, surety work, contract disputes, commercial foreclosures, adversary proceedings within the bankruptcy courts, and all aspects of a general commercial litigation practice. Among other things, Peter has tried, and won, a patent case before a jury in Federal Court, followed by appellate representation before the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington, D.C. Peter has also taken-on one of the largest communication firms in the United States, and its big-firm Boston lawyers, forcing the defendant company to pay Mackey Law Group’s client millions of dollars. Peter has also prosecuted and argued many appeals and even procured reversals, based on abuse of judicial discretion as to the trial judge. Peter has also successfully tried complex high-dollar family law cases. Personally, Peter and Cathie live in Bradenton and have four children: a Vanderbilt University graduate and teenage triplets. When he is not working, Peter likes to fish and spend time out on the water. In the summer you can find the Mackeys at their children’s sporting events and off of the West Coast of Florida or in the Keys. In the winter, the Mackeys are busy doing kid stuff. Peter is admitted to practice in both Florida and New York State and the United States federal courts. Do you need a good experienced litigator who is obsessed with winning? Look no further.
